Chantelle's June Watchlist - Includes Cinema Releases!

So for the first time since writing for the blog I can include Cinema releases in my monthly watchlist. We're a few days into June already, but let's not have that spoil the fun! I'm only including what I can recommend or intend on watching, so let's start with my latest watch and soon to be blog post.

A Quiet Place Part II - In Cinemas now

Join Evelyn, Regan and Marcus as we navigate a new world, filled with monsters who have super hearing and rip through families and cities like nobody's business. With a new baby and the loss of her youngest son and her husband, Evelyn's life is up in the air a little. The destruction left at the barn from their encounter which saw Lee lose his life makes their home uninhabitable, and so moving on to somewhere safe is there only option. With a familiar face coming to their rescue and Regan's knowledge of the monsters' weakness, will there be a greater chance of survival for the Abbott family? You'll have to find that out for yourself!

Raya And The Last Dragon - On Disney+ now

If you want my thoughts on this one you can check out my full review of this fantastic animated feature here!

The Full Monty (1997) - On Disney+ now

Well. I was not expecting this to turn up on Disney but it is an absolute British classic, and such a feel good film. This, Billy Elliot and East is East are some of my favourite movies from my youth! Robert Carlyle stars alongside Mark Addy and Tom Wilkinson in a story of six recently unemployed steelworkers who decide to grab life by the balls... becoming a male striptease act.

9th June - Nobody - In Cinemas soon

Bob Odenkirk stars like you've never seen him before. This John Wick-esque movie follows the Mansell family who were recently burgled. The son was beaten and threatened at gun point, with the father seemingly not trying very hard to dissuade them. He's observed as being weak, after all he's just an accountant. When a woman is harrassed on a bus he decides it's time to step in, and boy does he do just that! Except the guys he messes with are part of a local gang, and he's now the target of a particularly nasty drug lord. This film is EPIC.

10th June - Hairspray (2007) - Amazon

Good morning Baltimore, every day's like an open door! Every night is a fantasy, every sound's like a symphony! Possibly my favourite musical film of all time, Hairspray is a feel good movie, with character and sass. I love the actors, the musical numbers and the writing. If you want to brighten your day this is the movie for you - a little bit of self love goes a long way!

11th June - Wish Dragon (2021) - Netflix

A brand new Netflix animated movie featuring the voices of Jackie Chan, John Cho, Jimmy Wong, Constance Wu, Bobby Lee, Will Yun Lee and more! Wish Dragon is the story of a boy who seeks to reunite with his childhood best friend, and with the help of a dragon he just might. Produced by Jackie Chan, this adventure story isn't dissimilar to Aladdin and his genie, with 3 wishes available to the holder of the lamp, or in this case the jade teapot! I'm excited for this - could it trump Disney's recent movie Raya and the Last Dragon? Only my Honest Review will reveal that answer, so stay tuned!

11th June - Calendar Girls (2003) - Disney+

A group of friends pose nude for a calendar to raise money for a charity close to their hearts after one of their husbands is diagnosed with leukaemia. A great story and a really enjoyable film.

11th June - Legally Blonde (2001) - Amazon

I can't tell you how many times I've seen this movie, but I enjoy it every single watch. A complete Underdog who decides to go to law school to recapture the heart of her ex, Elle Woods is not one to be underestimated! Struggling to gain respect, facing difficulties making new friends, a battle of wit with Warner's new girlfriend and a professor whose motives are questionable. Our protagonist has quite the fight on her hands, and not just as a law student.

11th June - Legally Blonde 2: Red, White & Blonde (2003) - Amazon

Not as good as the original so don't get your hopes up, but if you love Elle Woods you'll probably think it makes sense to watch the follow up. Story is still Elle centric but we also get more Paulette too played by one of my faves Jennifer Coolidge.

18th June - Luca - Disney+

Disney & Pixar come together once again for an exciting story of a young boy's fun-filled summer with his new best friend. But all is not as it seems when a particularly strange secret is spilled... He's actually a sea monster!

18th June - The Intruder (2019) - Netflix

Dennis Quaid stars in this thriller about a man who isn't too thrilled to be getting rid of his property. He sells it to a newly wed couple but can't quite seem to keep his nose out of their business. I'm yet to watch this, but I'm looking forward to it!

18th June - Godzilla: King of the Monsters (2019) - Amazon

Amazing special effects, a soundtrack that'll get your eyes wet and a visually stunning masterpiece, Godzilla: King of the Monsters has to be one of my favourite movies of recent in terms of a great watch. Was the story a little bit iffy? Definitely. Is Mothra my new fave at this point? Yassssss! It brought all of the extra monster screen time that they forgot in the previous movie and introduces more of them. Worth a watch fo sho.

18th June - Hide And Seek (2005) - Disney+

Robert DeNiro is taunted by his daughter's imaginary friend; an entity of unknown origin, in this mystery/thriller. This movie was a great example of Dakota Fanning's talent as a child actor, and only a sign of what else was to come. Except the Twilight movies, let's pretend she wasn't in those.

18th June - The Dead Don't Die (2019) - Netflix

Not a movie I'm rushing to watch again, but if you're a fan of the Podcast it's an opportunity to watch one of Bruce's more obscure picks in an accessible way!

20th June - Aquaman (2018) - Netflix

Jason Momoa reprises his role as DC's Arthur Curry in this action packed origin story. Starring alongside Nicole Kidman, Temuera Morrison, Patrick Wilson and Willem Dafoe, this full-bodied cast takes on a mighty task - to make Aquaman cool. Everybody loves Momoa though so this was always gonna be a hit. I'd suggest watching Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice and Justice League first.

24th June - Fast 9 - In Cinemas Soon

The latest edition to the Fast & Furious franchise will be released later in June, and I for one can't wait! Hoping Hobbs and Shaw make an appearance to be honest but Vin Diesel will do just fine too, as it's all about his brother played by John Cena. A shock return of a character we all thought had died many moons ago, and with some familiar people from more recent movies, this promises to be an action packed spectacle as per usual!

25th June - Coyote Ugly (2000) - Disney+

Catch one of Andrew's absolute fave movies over on Disney+, with Coyote Ugly which follows a young songwriter whose aspirations in music lead her to play in a bar full of female dancers. Piper Perabo starts out as a shy aspiring musician but becomes a woman by the end of it!

25th June - Deuce Bigalow: Male Gigolo (1999) - Disney+

One of my all-time favourite comedies, Deuce Bigalow is an aquarium cleaner whose life gets turned upside down when he breaks a particularly expensive tank whilst babysitting fish for a very rich client. Becoming a male prostitute to be able to pay for the damage he's caused, he learns that not everybody wants the company of a man for the same reason.

27th June - Escape Room (2019) - Amazon

Having just watched the trailer for the sequel I think I'm up for another viewing of this one. Whilst there is room for improvement with this feature the timing of the initial release was perfect, as the Escape Room fad had peaked at this point. If it wasn't for a pandemic I'm sure it'd still be going strong too! And I love Tyler Labine so...
